MEDICAL CODING
Medical Coding is the transformation of a patient's healthcare procedures, equipment used, diagnosis, treatment received into alphanumeric codes. These codes are later billed to insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purposes. These codes must be accurate as they make up the whole claim.
Medical Coders use a set of assigned codes for coding purposes. They are mainly ICD, CPT and HCPCS. CPT codes are procedural codes and HCPCS are codes for equipment used. ICD codes are set of codes which contains a patient's diagnosis. For instance ICD Code M13.0 denotes polyarthritis.
Polyarthritis is an inflammatory disorder that affects multiple joints in the body. It is most commonly seen in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and lupus. In some cases, it may also be caused by infections, metabolic disorders, or other conditions. Symptoms of polyarthritis include joint pain, swelling, stiffness, and decreased range of motion. Treatment typically involves medications, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications.
